Folic Acid
Folic acid is also a member of the B-vitamin family.
Folic acid is essential for the synthesis of genetic material, protein
metabolism and a healthy pregnancy. It is also important for the formation
of healthy red and white blood cells and for healthy nervous, digestive
and immune systems. |

Precautions
General
There are no known toxicities associated with folic acid.
Large doses of folic acid can mask an underlying vitamin B12 deficiency,
which if undetected, could result in irreversible nerve damage. Consequently,
folic acid is limited to 800mcg in OTC nutritional supplements and 1mg
in prescription products. |
